Your chance to be an Open champion during a bumper weekend of Adventure and Mini Golf at Four Ashes!
Ever fancied being an Open golf champion? Or at least, competing in an Open championship? Well, Four Ashes Golf Centre on the outskirts of Solihull is offering you the opportunity to do just that!
The popular golf centre, based in Dorridge on the Four Ashes Road, is hosting an Open championship on its popular Adventure Golf and Mini-Golf course over the Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend at the end of next month.
The Midland Open Mini-Golf Championship will be hosted at Four Ashes on May 25th and 26th, the organisers bringing the event back to Solihull after a successful tournament last year, even though it was blighted by heavy rain.
It attracts mini-golf enthusiasts from all over the Midlands, and from other areas of the country, but anyone is welcome to enter, even if you have never picked up a golf club in your life!
The most important thing is taking part!
“With mini-golf, you are only using one club, a putter, and it’s a great leveller,” said Scott Lancley, chairman of the British Mini-Golf Association, who organise the Midlands Open weekend. “Whether you’re a regular golfer, or just love playing Adventure Golf at Four Ashes, it really doesn’t matter.
“The most important thing is to take part and have fun – it’s the taking part that’s more important, and you couldn’t do it at a lovelier venue, the 18 hole Adventure Golf is awesome – and though we have regulars who will be very competitive, who knows, anything is possible!”
The Midland Open weekend is split into two days, with the Adventure Golf championship taking place on Saturday, May 25th, overseen by the Midlands Mini-Golf Club, whose captain Michael Smith is the UK number one mini-golf player. The following day, May 26th, the weekend is completed with a tournament on Four Ashes’s smaller mini-golf course.”
“The team at Four Ashes always make us so welcome, and other than the Adventure Golf and mini-golf, the facilities there are fantastic, and we have a great time on and off the courses,” said Scott. “We’re just hoping the weather’s kinder to us this year.
“Last year we hosted the event in the middle of the heatwave, but on the only weekend in the summer that rained, and it really did pour down – but we still had a great time, and we’re all looking forward to returning next month.”
A terrific weekend
Entry for the Midlands Open Golf Championship, around the Adventure Golf course on Saturday, May 25th, costs £15 – competitors go round three times between 4.30 pm and 8.30 pm, with prizes for all categories, including novice players.
It costs £7 to take part in the British Mini-Golf Association Matchplay event on May 26th, starting at 9:00 am.
To book a place, in either event, contact the organisers via email at midlandsmgc@yahoo.co.uk, or send a personal message to the British Mini-Golf Association via Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BMGAMinigolf/
“We’re delighted to be hosting the Midlands Mini-Golf Open again, and look forward to welcoming lots of visitors from around Solihull, and from other parts of the country,” said Peter Jones, of the Four Ashes Golf Centre marketing team.
“It’s a terrific weekend, great fun, and a tremendous opportunity for us to showcase the fantastic facilities we have at Four Ashes, none more so than the Adventure Golf course, which we opened three years ago in July.”
