Daanyal Spalding, representing Four Ashes on the PGA EuroPro Tour this year, shot two great rounds at the IFX Championship, at Frilford Heath Golf Club in Oxfordshire, to finish two under par overall for the tournament.
He followed up his level par on day one – which included a hole in one at the 13th – with a 2-under par on Friday to complete an event which lost a day to Wednesday’s heavy rain.
The tournament was won by Hugo Dobson of Kent, who finished with a combined 12-under par.
Second tournament after injury
This is only Daanyal’s second tournament back after injury, and he’s shaping up well. “Really pleased with the way it went this week, and feel I’m making good progress with every tournament,” he said.
“I’m definitely looking at a tournament win at some stage of the season, and I’ll be practising hard between events, and giving it my all to give myself a chance of achieving that.
“The hole in one was a big thrill – it was with my seven iron, and it’s lovely when it happens,” said Daanyal. “Unfortunately the TV cameras only cover the last day’s play, so I missed my chance for a bit of glory on Sky Sports!”
Highlights of the tournament will by shown on Sky Sports on Tuesday, May 30, and the EuroPro Tour continues with the Eagle Orchid Scottish Masters at Montrose Golf Links, June 13-15.
