If there is one thing that can’t be escaped at the moment, it’s technology.

It’s everywhere from staying in touch with friends to simplifying everyday tasks, entertainment and doing the shopping. There is no doubt that mobile phones, tablets, smartwatches and all the other gadgets make our lives easier and help with a plethora of different things. But can you have too much of a good thing? There is a very valid argument that technology is increasingly leading to people becoming isolated, lazy and less communicative. The fact is that there needs to be a healthy balance between technology and being in the real world. This is where we come in.

Here at Four Ashes Golf Centre we think we have an ideal combination. Our golf, business and family offerings ensure that anyone can put down the mobile phone for a while and get back to basics.

De-Stress and Relax

If you need to switch off for a while then our driving range is the ideal place to lose yourself in hitting a few balls and practising your swing.
Just get a bucket of balls, grab a couple of clubs and go for it. We’ve got 28 floodlit bays meaning that you can play day or evening and you’ll pretty much always be able to get on.

While for some golf can be a frustrating sport to master, it’s also a great way to relax and shake off the stresses of the day. You can keep an eye out for our fun challenges too, so you can aim for some of our special targets, that we put out on the range.

If you’re getting withdrawal symptoms though, there is a technology element that you can include in your driving range session.
You can film your golf swing on your mobile phone, send the video into our Facebook page and our golf professionals will give you feedback on your technique.

Once you’ve done that though, put the phone down and get back on the range to take on board the advice and perfect your swing.

Of course, relaxing and switching off doesn’t have to be about playing golf though.

Our café/bar is the perfect place to relax and meet with friends. We serve Costa coffee so you can have your favourite latte or cappuccino even with a flavour! We serve food all day too so you can enjoy being waited on hand and foot.

If you really feel the need to use your phone, then you can download our free mobile app and collect loyalty points every time you spend.

Get Social – and Competitive

Instead of texting and face timing friends, you can meet them in real life on our adventure golf course. Enjoy some time together, have some fun and see who can be the top dog in a competitive round on the course.

You can enjoy watching your friends put the ball into the water feature for the tenth time or cringe as they gloat over a hole in one. But one thing is for sure, it can mean some quality time spent playing on the course and having fun.

You can even have ice cream and a drink in the seating area afterwards.

If you’re trying to get the kids off the Xbox then it’s a great way to get them off the sofa and active and you might find that they discover a new sport that they want to get involved in. If that’s the case then our golf lessons for juniors would be the ideal next step to keep their interest.

As with anything though, tech addicts can still make use of their phones. If you take a selfie on the seventh hole and upload it to social media then you have a chance of winning a free return game and if you have our app on your phone then you can take advantage of the scorecard on their too, this should take out the chance of any cheating too!

Get Fit

You can also lose the FitBit and the exercise tracking apps and get a real personal training programme from CustomFit Functional Sports Fitness.

It is run by fitness professional David Moult on site here at Four Ashes offering private one to one personal training on a wide range of equipment. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve never set foot in a gym before, David will take on board your requirements and design a programme tailored to meet your goals.

It’s a lot better than counting your steps on a fitness tracking app!

So if you’re thinking about losing the digital side to your life, if only for a day or two, then a visit to us here at Four Ashes Golf Centre is a great way to start.

You don’t have to get rid of your phone completely but you might find that you can have plenty of fun with family and friends without it.
