On Sunday, May 12th we welcome the Velo Birmingham cycling event to Dorridge and the surrounding Solihull area and, here at Four Ashes Golf Centre, we are delighted that the 100-mile cycle route runs straight past us. Many local businesses like us are embracing the event and while there will be some disruption to our accessing our services, we want to make the most of what will be a fantastic day.
The roads may be closed on May 12th but there are still other ways to access our site so you can watch the cycling action and still enjoy our adventure golf course, have a session on the driving range or pop into our café.
Road Closures And Access
If you are looking to access our site during the event then we have the essential information on how to get to us and the other businesses on Four Ashes Road.
Whether you’re looking to come and visit us or want the best view of the riders at the top of our drive, the only access will now be one-way access from Widney Manor Road down to Gate Lane. You can use Widney Manor Road, to access Gate Lane to turn into our site. When leaving, simply turn right and use Gate Lane for your onward journey. We are located in sector 6 of the route with anticipated road closure times of 7.15am to 3.45pm.
To see more about the overall route and road closures, you can visit the event website here.
There will be plenty of activity taking place while Velo Birmingham zooms past our centre and you can enjoy a perfect viewing point at the top of our drive. There’ll be lots of space available to see the riders as they cycle by and we’ve got some tips that you might want to think about while you’re waiting for the cyclists.
Spectator Advice
We’ve had some great weather over Easter but we’re still unsure what it could be like come May 12th so dress appropriately with sunscreen if it’s sunny or in clothes that are suitable for wet weather.
The atmosphere all along the route promises to be fantastic with support for the riders encouraged all along the 100-mile circuit but we want our section of the route to be remembered for being the most supportive and, most importantly, the noisiest! We want lots of signs, placards and flags as well as plenty of cheering and encouragement for the riders – by the time they sail past us, they will have cycled nearly 70 miles so they’ll need all the help they can get!
The Velo Birmingham website also recommends that spectators stay hydrated while they are watching the cycling and that’s where we come in.
Our café will be open all day so if you’re looking for some refreshments then we’ll be on hand to help. We are proud to serve Costa coffee along with a wide variety of Costa branded snacks too.
If you’re looking for something more then we serve meals and sandwiches all day too. The café is just a quick walk down the drive from the Velo Birmingham viewing point so it’s the perfect option to take a break.
You can take advantage of our special offer for Velo Birmingham spectators too of a bacon bap and a Costa coffee for £4.50.
Useful Links
Our neighbours will also be getting involved with all the fun and activities so if you’d like to know what the Drum & Monkey Pub, Four Ashes Nurseries, Hogarths Hotel and others will be doing then take a look at their websites for more information.
